About The Position

The Hydromet SX Operator I operates and monitors processes within the solvent extraction (SX) plant, including PLS, the SX circuit, and the electrolyte tank. The role collects and runs plant samples, monitors processes and adjusts them as needed, and adjusts plant flows such as cell, acid, and dump flows. It also includes inspections, minor maintenance, mobile-equipment operation when needed, and housekeeping. The position is based at Freeport-McMoRan’s Morenci operations, an open-pit copper mining complex near Safford, Arizona.

Requirements

Six months of experience in hydromet processing operations.
Knowledge of solution-extraction and leach flow sheets.
Knowledge of proper shutdown and startup procedures for copper sulphate and tank house electrolyte transfer systems.
Knowledge of pipelines and valve systems.
Completion of required academic and practical competencies, including Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where applicable, and experience demonstrating the required aptitude.
Ability to apply knowledge and skills and pass a written assessment where required; the assessment may cover skills, abilities, academic knowledge, and safety.
May be required to pass a medical exam.
Must pass all required training and/or testing.
Must comply with mandatory pre-employment drug testing and ongoing drug and alcohol testing, as permitted by applicable law.

Responsibilities

Operate and monitor SX processes, which may include PLS, the SX circuit, and the electrolyte tank.
Collect and run plant samples.
Monitor processes and make adjustments as needed.
Adjust plant flows, including cell flows, acid flows, and dump flows.
Inspect pipelines, pumps and motors, ponds, rain gauges, dams, dam diversions, and berms.
Complete minor maintenance activities as needed.
May operate mobile equipment, such as forklifts and light-duty vehicles.
Perform area housekeeping.
Perform other duties as required.
