About The Position

EnSafe is seeking a Hydrogeology Group Leader to join their team of environmental professionals. This role will provide leadership for hydrogeologic practices across EnSafe, supporting complex projects nationwide. The position serves as EnSafe’s Hydrogeology Group Leader and Senior Subject Matter Expert, responsible for setting group priorities, establishing hydrogeologic standards, and driving consistent execution. In addition to senior technical project responsibilities, this position provides leadership, direction, and accountability for hydrogeologic practices, tools, training, and integration with other Scientific Services groups. The role is accountable for the Hydrogeology Group's performance and provides directions to hydrogeologic staff across the organization. Success will be measured by improved consistency and quality of hydrogeologic data, effective training and mentoring of staff, timely execution of group initiatives, and strong integration with EnSafe’s Scientific Services and Technology teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Hydrology, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 15–20 years of professional experience, preferably in environmental consulting.
  • Professional Geologist or Engineer licensure.
  • Strong background in hydrogeologic site characterization, groundwater flow and transport modeling and analysis, and environmental remediation/remedy optimization.
  • Proficiency with regulatory programs, including CERCLA, RCRA, and state-specific programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and teams, manage multiple priorities, mentor/supervise employees, and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Advanced skills in data analysis, report writing, and preparation of maps, tables, charts, and figures.
  • Experience using hydrogeologic modeling tools, including but not limited to MODFLOW, MT3D codes, VISTAS, EVS, etc.
  • Familiarity with GIS applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and communicate group priorities, roadmap, and success metrics.
  • Serve as the decision authority for hydrogeologic methods, modeling approaches, and tools.
  • Define and enforce field logging, data quality, and hydrogeologic standards.
  • Lead and oversee the development of group training programs, curricula, and completion timelines.
  • Serve as a technical advisor, mentor junior staff, perform quality control reviews, and support the development of aspiring hydrogeologists.
  • Coordinate with Visualization, Statistics, Environmental Sequence Stratigraphy (ESS), Technology, and Operations teams.
  • Drive hydrogeology-related initiatives to completion with clear accountability.
  • Design, direct, and execute complex site investigations, including the planning and implementation of drilling, geophysical logging, aquifer testing, sampling of various media, and installation of monitoring and recovery wells.
  • Lead project teams in developing conceptual site models and conducting contaminant fate and transport evaluations.
  • Manage and oversee field activities, ensuring health and safety compliance, subcontractor coordination, and efficient scheduling.
  • Interpret hydrogeologic data and synthesize field and analytical results to support reporting, risk assessments, remedial design, and regulatory decision-making.
  • Utilize advanced groundwater models to support site characterization and remediation/optimization strategies.
  • Write and review technical reports, work plans, sampling plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Interface with clients and regulatory agencies as subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance, presenting findings, and supporting negotiations.
  • Optimize passive and active remedial alternatives, including LTM.
  • Build, calibrate, and validate analytical and numerical soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and indoor air (attenuation) modeling.
  • Provide litigation support for discovery, affidavits, deposition, and trial.
  • Perform sequence stratigraphy evaluations and reporting.
  • Perform statistical evaluations, background studies, and associated reporting.
