About The Position

Emerson is seeking a Hydroelectric Solutions Engineer who is passionate about renewable energy, automation, and solving complex technical and business challenges. This role serves as a trusted advisor to customers and internal stakeholders, leading the development of strategic solutions for hydroelectric generation projects. The focus is on Renewable Energy and Hydropower, requiring close collaboration with customers, sales, business development, proposal teams, and execution organizations to define solution strategies, establish project scope, and position Emerson for success on large capital and EPC projects. The engineer will leverage hydro industry expertise to guide technical and commercial decision-making, develop repeatable solution frameworks, and expand Emerson's renewable energy business. This position can be located in Blue Bell, PA, Cranberry Township, PA, Amherst, WI, or Novi, MI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, related technical degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the hydroelectric power industry.
  • Experience with industrial automation, control systems, SCADA, DCS, PLCs, and digital technologies used in power generation facilities.
  • Proven ability to develop technical strategies, define project scope, and support complex customer pursuits.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or Power Engineering.
  • 15 years of experience in the hydroelectric power industry.
  • Experience supporting large EPC or design-build projects within the hydroelectric power industry.
  • Experience developing technical proposals, project estimates, and commercial strategies.
  • Knowledge of turbine-generator systems, governors, excitation systems, protection systems, substations, and plant electrical infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with North American hydroelectric market participants, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards.
  • Experience developing organizational tools, templates, technical standards, and solution development processes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical and industry leader for hydroelectric opportunities throughout the proposal lifecycle.
  • Lead strategic pursuit planning for large and complex hydro projects.
  • Collaborate with customers, consultants, EPC contractors, and internal stakeholders to define project scope, execution strategies, and technical requirements.
  • Develop solution architectures for hydro modernization, rehabilitation, greenfield, and brownfield projects involving plant control systems, SCADA, DCS, instrumentation, and mechanical solutions.
  • Assess commercial and technical risks, identify differentiators, and recommend strategies that improve project competitiveness and profitability.
  • Partner with proposal teams to develop technical approaches, scope definitions, project assumptions, and value propositions.
  • Present solution strategies, technical concepts, and business benefits to customers, executive leadership, and key decision makers.
  • Develop and maintain standard solution templates, estimating tools, cost and price benchmarks, technical standards, and best practices to improve consistency, efficiency, and quality.
  • Monitor industry trends, market drivers, competitive activity, and emerging hydro technologies.
