About The Position

Leidos Defense is seeking a talented Hydraulic and Mechanical Lead Engineer for the Low Band System (LBS) program, a large, multi-phase radar program. This role involves leading the design, development, integration, and testing of hydraulic components and systems for both a transportable demonstrator and a stationary antenna array. The engineer will be responsible for hydraulic system architecture, component selection, bill of materials, specifications, 3D CAD modeling, fabrication drawings, test planning, and hands-on integration and testing. Additionally, this role may support mechanical and thermal system tasks. The position requires a seasoned technical contributor and leader proficient in hydraulics engineering, thermal management, structural design, and technical leadership, capable of solving complex technical problems and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The engineer must own the hydraulic system, meeting technical requirements, schedules, and cost objectives. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
  • BS + 4 years progressive hydraulics engineering experience or MS + 2 years
  • Proficient with either Solidworks or Creo
  • Experience with drawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.100 & Y14.5
  • Basic understanding and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Strong attention-to-detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently and in team environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • US Citizenship required
  • Active DoD security clearance or eligibility to obtain and maintain

Nice To Haves

  • In addition to hydraulic design, experience in either structural design or structural analysis
  • Experience with weapon systems, military hardware, erector systems, and/or industrial/construction/mining/agriculture equipment
  • Basic understanding or experience with radars or other advanced sensing technologies
  • Technical team leadership
  • Experience with large steel structures including welded structures and bolted assemblies
  • Experience with fluid flow systems and/or thermal systems
  • Experience with technical data and documentation release and management in Windchill
  • Experience supporting rapid development, prototyping, or fast-paced engineering programs
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-31000 Technical Data Package (TDP) development
  • Active DoD security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Lead hydraulic engineering tasks including the design, analysis, manufacture, integration, and test of hydraulic components and subsystems
  • Support and perform technical trade studies, develop hydraulic system architecture
  • Apply sound engineering practices to develop concepts using CAD and mature designs that meet system requirements
  • Support technical peer, table-top, and internal/external design reviews
  • Create and maintain Technical Data Package (TDP) artifacts, including CAD models, drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, test procedures and reports
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with design, analysis, fabrication, test, and program management teams to resolve challenges and complete tasks on schedule
