About The Position

The HVAC Technician assists in the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems. This position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing equipment issues, and supporting the operation of HVAC equipment to ensure a safe, reliable, and energy-efficient environment.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Two years of demonstrated ability to apply the techniques of the trade
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong work ethic required.
  • Must be able to work independently, respect confidentiality, problem-solve, and maintain courtesy in dealing with administration, students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Be able to be contacted by telephone during non-working hours.
  • Be available for overtime work and to be on call.
  • Must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining and repairing HVAC equipment by inspecting, adjusting, and repairing.
  • Assist in maintaining and repairing HVAC equipment up to 30 tons, including split systems, package units, pumps, fans, air handler units, heating units, refrigeration equipment, and air compressors.
  • Perform periodic or special preventive maintenance inspections to ascertain the general condition of the equipment and make recommendations for repairs as necessary to keep the equipment in good operating condition.
  • Perform the recommended routine preventive maintenance on the equipment.
  • Assist in troubleshooting problems using appropriate electrical, mechanical, or pneumatic testing equipment.
  • Assist in the installation of new air conditioning systems, including installation of ducts, piping, various air conditioning units, and related equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Utilities/Energy Management.
