About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining, constructing, installing, troubleshooting, and repairing all air distribution systems services for various Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities. This includes maintaining, repairing, installing, and coordinating chill water and heating water hydronic systems, absorption and reciprocating chillers, ensuring conformance with CFC and EPA Title 15 regulations, and managing all air distribution systems including VAV systems, multi-zone systems, local fan-coil and cabinet unit heaters, and their integration with the Siemens Building Automation system.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systems (boiler, chillers, air handlers, control systems, etc.) OR a combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience equal to three (3) years.
  • Must possess a current and valid Universal CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) Certificate.
  • Must be a current resident of Colorado.
  • Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
  • Must successfully pass Motor Vehicle Check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid non-restricted Colorado driver’s license throughout employment.
  • Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.
  • Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Must be willing to rotate after hours on-call and be able to respond in person to after hours calls.
  • Must be willing to work various hours for coverage, weather-related issues, and essential/emergency services outside of normal business hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with absorption and reciprocating chillers.
  • Experience with Siemens Building Automation system.
  • Knowledge of Ohm's Law.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair of pumps and control valves (Electrical and pneumatic).
  • Experience with fire and smoke control systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC fabrication processes and the use of HVAC machines and tools utilized for HVAC system fabrications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and install all HVAC equipment in compliance with manufacturer's recommendations, local codes, Health department, Joint Commission, and ACA standards within a large multi-building campus environment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair tasks on large HVAC/R systems, including filter changes and coil cleaning.
  • Monitor and test heating and cooling closed loops and cooling towers for water treatment levels and coordinate with vendors to correct out-of-tolerance conditions.
  • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, and install large-scale refrigeration equipment in compliance with manufacturer's recommendations, local codes, Health department, The Joint Commission, ACA, and ASHRAE standards.
  • Understand principles and experience with refrigeration recovery, evacuation, and charging, including the installation and sizing of refrigerant piping in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Monitor, install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building automation controls and systems (electric, pneumatic, and DDC) to ensure proper operation of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and meet environmental requirements.
  • Read wiring diagrams, use multimeters to read voltage, current, and resistance values, and troubleshoot electrical and low voltage circuits, understanding Ohm's Law.
  • Analyze logs, printouts, and other materials to solve operational problems of mechanical systems.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of pumps and control valves (electrical and pneumatic).
  • Repair cooling towers, absorption chillers, water-cooled chillers, and direct expansion units over 150 tons, including replacement of piping, components, and electronic systems.
  • Maintain fire and smoke control systems in air handling, duct, and exhaust systems, communicating with customers about repairs that may affect their areas, while conforming to NFPA provisions.
  • Perform mechanical fabrication using HVAC fabrication processes and associated machines and tools.
  • Comply with the safety program and tool and key control.
  • Perform snow removal.
  • Other duties as assigned.
