About The Position

We are seeking an HVAC Technician. Position requires experience in all phases of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) service, operation, and maintenance. Operates, maintains and repairs HVAC equipment for the systems serving the JHU campus. The goal is to maintain a safe and comfortable atmosphere in all facilities and ensure the safe and efficient operation of all equipment.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED required.
Training in the industry in the form of an apprenticeship or similar education from an accredited organization.
At least 3 years in the field experience in an HVAC service atmosphere.
CFC certification required.
Driver’s License.
Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move and position objects and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand, walk or otherwise move about campus on a continuous basis.
Ability to ascend/descend ladders periodically to perform building maintenance.
Ability to read and write in order to read work orders and to complete records, maintenance schedules, and so forth.
Ability to interact and/or work with faculty, students, staff, and visitors in a respectful and courteous manner.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Knowledge of indoor air monitoring equipment and interpret resulting data.
Knowledge of standards for design and construction.
Knowledge of air conditioning and heating codes.
Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge of refrigerant handling and disposal.
Ability to operate equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance on HVAC equipment.
Ability to plan and manage projects.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
Ability to handle hazardous materials.
Ability to make decisions regarding the safe operation of the building/campus systems.
Ability to interact with Faculty, Staff and Students and clearly communicate problems, solutions and effect concerning their environment.

HVAC Journeyman’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

Coordinates with assigned foreman and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and/or replacement needs.
Fabricates equipment parts for the purpose of meeting specialty needs and/or replacing unavailable parts.
Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.
Inspects HVAC systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
Installs heating and air conditioning equipment and systems for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities.
Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
Performs routine and preventive maintenance as needed for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functioning of HVAC systems.
Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
Repairs heating and air conditioning systems and/or components (e.g. pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, piping, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable work environment.
Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
