About The Position

Brandt Heating and Air Conditioning is seeking an experienced HVAC Technical Advisor to serve as a trainer, mentor, technical resource, and leader for their service team. This role is ideal for an HVAC professional who enjoys problem-solving, coaching, setting expectations, and contributing to a stronger service department. While still connected to the field, this position offers a more consistent and predictable schedule than a traditional service technician role, with the opportunity for broader impact. The HVAC Technical Advisor will be a key resource for technicians and management, helping to establish expectations, develop technicians, and ensure the team has the necessary training and support. Responsibilities include coaching technicians through ride-alongs and complex calls, developing training programs, providing technical guidance, assisting with repair-versus-replacement decisions, conducting in-house training, reviewing callbacks, collaborating with other departments, and maintaining standards for safety, code compliance, vehicles, and tools. The role also involves building relationships with local trade schools for recruiting and coordinating the day-to-day technical needs of the service department. This position is designed for individuals ready to leverage their HVAC expertise to influence and develop others, offering a structured development path, hands-on coaching, and exposure to various HVAC systems.

Requirements

  • State of Iowa HVAC License
  • Valid driver's license
  • Meets criteria of Level 4+ technician
  • 3+ years in customer service or management within a service industry, or equivalent education/experience
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and blueprints
  • Broad HVAC troubleshooting experience with furnaces, AC, geothermal, heat pumps, boilers, and rooftop units
  • Ability to safely operate scissors and genie lifts
  • Knowledge of basic sheet metal practices
  • Understanding of air balancing principles and techniques
  • Experience making repair and replacement decisions
  • Strong computer skills and highly organized
  • Advanced customer service and communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and accountability
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong proficiency with Service Titan or similar service management software
  • Resides within 30 miles of our location

Responsibilities

  • Coaching technicians in the field through ride-alongs, complex calls, and customer communication
  • Helping establish technician expectations, standards, and accountability
  • Developing and coordinating training programs using tools such as Interplay Learning
  • Providing technical guidance on challenging diagnostic and repair situations
  • Helping technicians make sound repair-versus-replacement recommendations
  • Conducting in-house training and mentoring technicians
  • Reviewing callbacks and identifying opportunities to prevent repeat issues
  • Collaborating with service, dispatch, and installation
  • Helping maintain safety, code compliance, vehicle, and tool standards
  • Building relationships with local trade schools to support recruiting
  • Coordinating the day-to-day technical needs of the service department
