About The Position

Under general supervision, the HVAC Tech I performs technical work installing, repairing, replacing, and maintaining residential and light commercial HVAC equipment, including furnaces, heat pumps, package units, split systems, evaporative air-conditioning units, and heating systems. The role also involves maintenance and applying fundamental refrigeration knowledge. This position is part of a federal AbilityOne contract and, due to program requirements, must be filled by a person with a disability. There are no direct reports.

Requirements

One to three years of field experience servicing residential and light commercial HVAC equipment.
Ability to use industry hand and machine tools, such as vacuum pumps and refrigeration gauges.
Ability to read, interpret, and work from schematics and written instructions.
Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including single-phase and three-phase motors, compressors, contactors, relays, and sensors.
Must be a person with a disability to meet the stated federal AbilityOne contract program requirements.

Responsibilities

Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain residential and light commercial HVAC equipment.
Cut and bend tubing to the required length and shape.
Apply plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and refrigeration skills.
Read refrigeration pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation; perform refrigerant recovery and vacuum procedures.
Test joints and connections for gas leaks.
Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure it in place.
Replace defective controls, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units.
Repair and replace residential and light commercial evaporative A/C units.
Repair and replace residential and light commercial heating systems.
Follow PRIDE safety policies and procedures.
Respond to emergency calls after work hours.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
