HVAC Specialist - Facility Operations

About The Position

The City of Topeka is seeking an HVAC professional to serve as a lead technician in its Facility Operations Division. The role plans, directs, and performs work to support the adequate and efficient operation of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems city-wide. The incumbent also serves as a technical expert on HVAC maintenance and supports the training of others.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Graduation from an accredited vocational school with specialized training in air conditioning or a closely related field.
Licensed refrigerant recovery system technician.
Three years of experience in the care and maintenance of HVAC systems, including experience maintaining commercial/industrial electrical and plumbing systems.
Valid Kansas driver’s license and ability to meet the City’s insurability requirements.
Ability to pass an extensive background check, including a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) check and KBI fingerprinting.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a safety trainer/coordinator.
Experience as an inventory specialist.

Responsibilities

Perform maintenance, modifications, and repairs on a variety of HVAC systems city-wide.
Administer HVAC service contracts and oversee work performed by contractors.
Serve as a lead worker and technical expert on HVAC maintenance.
Train others in routine HVAC preventive tasks and safe work practices.
Maintain records, collect, compile, and analyze data, and prepare required reports.
Perform electrical and circuitry repairs as needed.
