The HVAC Service Technician will test and troubleshoot AC systems, continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Duties include working from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs. The technician will troubleshoot, maintain, modify, and repair heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, fans and fan motors, and associated safety, over current, and other equipment protection devices, ensuring they operate at peak efficiency and conserve energy usage. Responsibilities also include providing preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services, diagnosing malfunctioning systems, locating the cause of breakdowns and correcting the problem, connecting wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components, and inspecting electrical systems to identify hazards or defects, adjusting or repairing to ensure compliance with codes. The technician will advise management of hazardous equipment and perform other related duties as assigned. This includes planning, monitoring, installing, and adjusting the full range of heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment using an energy management system, performing installation of mechanical systems including piping and modifications to existing facility cooling systems, and performing corrective and preventive maintenance on packaged units, split coil systems, air compressors, pumps, air handlers, and air-cooled condensers. A strong background in HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including hands-on experience in operating and troubleshooting systems, is required.
