About The Position

We are currently hiring a highly experienced HVAC/R Service Manager to lead our field team and help drive the continued growth of our service and installation operations. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both technical expertise and the ability to manage people, schedules, and materials efficiently. The right candidate will work directly alongside the owners and senior senior staff to ensure jobs are completed on time, to standard, and with a high level of customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7+ years of hands-on HVAC/R experience (both service & installation)
  • Minimum 3-5 years in a supervisory, lead, or service manager role
  • RI or Ma Refrigeration license
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (required)
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial and/or residential HVAC/R systems, refrigeration, and controls
  • Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex system failures
  • Experience with dispatching and scheduling field personnel
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work effectively with technicians, clients, and owners
  • Proficiency with smartphones, tablets, and basic office/service management software
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Nice To Haves

  • NATE certification or equivalent industry credentials
  • Experience with both service and installation sides of the trade
  • Familiarity with service management or dispatch software (e.g., Service Fusion, ServiceTitan, FieldEdge, or similar)
  • Background in training or mentoring junior technicians
  • Experience with commercial refrigeration systems (walk-ins, ice machines, chillers, marine refrigeration) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and support a team of HVAC/R field technicians on both service and installation work
  • Assign and oversee daily work orders, ensuring jobs are executed safely, efficiently, and to company standards
  • Hold technicians accountable for quality of work, professionalism, and time management
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented culture and serve as a point of escalation for field issues
  • Manage daily dispatch of service technicians based on skill level, location, and job priority
  • Coordinate scheduling for both reactive service calls and planned installation projects
  • Adjust schedules in real time to accommodate emergency calls, call-outs, or shifting priorities
  • Maintain clear communication between the field and office throughout the day
  • Identify skill gaps in less experienced technicians and provide structured on-the-job coaching
  • Develop and encourage technician growth through mentorship, ride-alongs, and hands-on guidance
  • Help newer techs build confidence in diagnostics, repairs, and customer interaction
  • Promote ongoing education including certifications, manufacturer training, and code updates
  • Serve as the go-to technical resource for field techs, available for over-the-phone guidance during challenging calls
  • Respond to job sites as needed to assist with complex diagnostics or difficult repairs
  • Assist with troubleshooting across commercial, residential, and industrial HVAC/R systems (commercial troubleshooting experience highly preferred)
  • Stay current on equipment, refrigerants, controls, and emerging industry technology
  • Source, order, and track parts and materials needed for service calls and installation jobs
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and distributors to ensure competitive pricing and availability
  • Coordinate material delivery and staging to keep jobs on schedule
  • Monitor and manage shop/truck stock levels to minimize downtime in the field
  • Work closely with the owner on business planning, job costing, and operational improvements
  • Partner with the senior technician on complex installs, equipment selection, and quality control
  • Provide regular updates on field team performance, job progress, and any outstanding issues
  • Assist with estimating and scoping of service and installation work as needed
