About The Position

Skilled trades are essential, and this role requires experienced professionals to teach the next generation of tradesmen and women. The primary role is to facilitate student learning, guide them in shaping their future in the industry, and organize all aspects of classroom function, including cleanliness, safety, demonstration materials, and lecture. Instructors administer lessons following pre-developed lesson plans, leading students through the practical, hands-on application of the lessons taught.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum required years of field experience (dependent upon the region)

Responsibilities

  • Motivate students by demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm, and sensitivity for their concerns.
  • Engage students, actively involving them in classroom discussions and/or activities.
  • Identify different student learning styles and adjust teaching style accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping for student attendance and grades.
  • Advise students on attendance, grades, and discipline issues.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment at all times.
  • Manage all tools assigned to the classroom, including issuing, inspecting, repairing, and teaching proper handling.
  • Communicate, support, and enforce school policies and procedures.
  • Ensure an ethical and fair testing environment during periods of testing.
  • Maintain classroom equipment through evaluation, inspection, parts ordering, and repair.
  • Use experience to constantly evaluate the curriculum for continuing relevance.
  • Conform to prescribed methods of record keeping as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Communicate promptly regarding supplies, tools, or other essentials needed for students.
  • Maintain working field knowledge through continuing education and demonstrate continuing professional development of technical expertise and as an instructor.
  • Attend semi-annual graduation ceremonies (mandatory).
  • Work as part of a team to develop and maintain the Instructor Training and Development program.
  • Implement the Instructor Training and Development program and maintain records.
  • Monitor new instructors in training and confer regularly with the training instructor regarding progress.
  • Provide mentorship, leadership, and feedback for new instructors.
  • Report information and insight regarding new instructors to the Lead Instructor/Director of Training.
  • Teach new instructors how to request and order materials, supplies, and tools.
  • Conduct monthly inventory of tools necessary for classroom projects and discuss discrepancies.
  • Prompt other instructors to order printed materials, supplies, and tools.
  • Establish and implement a plan to cross-train and be able to teach in any phase of training.
  • Update the Lead Instructor/Director of Training on the progress of the cross-training plan.
  • Establish and implement a plan to explore continued study of education-related issues.
  • Be willing and capable of participating in any phase of training as a temporary assistant instructor.
  • Conduct monthly classroom and laboratory inspections, noting and addressing physical facility maintenance needs and general cleanliness.
  • Monitor working condition of training aids and report non-working equipment.
  • Assist classroom instructors in the repair and maintenance of training aids.
  • Facilitate maintenance for campus facilities using available resources.
  • Repair tools/equipment not directly associated with a particular class.
  • Be available to help students needing short-term tutoring.
  • Consult with the Lead Instructor/Director of Training for students needing more extensive tutoring.
  • Assist the Lead Instructor/Director of Training in the development and implementation of a safety program.
  • Monitor the safety program in classroom and laboratory areas.
  • Report repeated infractions of safety requirements to the Lead Instructor/Director of Training.
  • Monitor each instructor and assistant instructor monthly and complete a feedback form.
  • Provide appropriate feedback for instructor review with recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist with curriculum development, including topic research, text material acquisition, lesson plan development, and test writing.
  • Refer all personnel issues to the Lead Instructor/Director of Training.
  • Work with students to resolve concerns or direct them to the appropriate party.
  • Assume duties of the Lead Instructor/Director of Training in their absence.
