About The Position

The Counter Sales Representative is responsible for providing outstanding customer service to contractors by assisting with product selection, processing sales transactions, answering technical questions, and ensuring customers receive the right products quickly and accurately. This position plays a key role in building lasting customer relationships while supporting branch sales growth and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service or sales experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with ERP or point-of-sale systems preferred.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • HVAC industry experience is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Experience in HVAC wholesale distribution.
  • Knowledge of HVAC parts, equipment, and troubleshooting.
  • Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience using distribution or inventory management software.

Responsibilities

  • Greet every customer promptly and professionally.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors and walk-in customers.
  • Provide knowledgeable product recommendations based on customer needs.
  • Resolve customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Promote a positive and welcoming branch environment.
  • Process customer orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Prepare customer quotes and special-order requests.
  • Cross-sell and upsell equipment, accessories, and replacement parts.
  • Inform customers about current promotions, rebates, and vendor programs.
  • Assist customers with warranty and return procedures.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of HVAC equipment, parts, tools, and accessories.
  • Stay informed on new products and manufacturer updates.
  • Participate in ongoing product and technical training.
  • Assist with receiving and stocking inventory.
  • Verify product accuracy before customer pickup.
  • Help maintain organized shelves and warehouse areas.
  • Report inventory discrepancies to management.
  • Assist with cycle counts as needed.
  • Answer incoming phone calls professionally.
  • Support warehouse personnel during busy periods.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized sales counter.
  • Follow company policies and safety procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with inside sales, outside sales, warehouse, and management teams.
