  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and to lift and move large pieces of sheet metal, piping assemblies, and equipment (up to and above 50 lbs.) on a consistent basis.
  • Comfortable working with open-flame torches, pressurized gases, and precision testing equipment while following all safety protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Journeyman status (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic) strongly preferred.
  • 5 years experience in HVAC piping, copper brazing, tube bending, or manufacturing assembly is preferred.
  • Proven hands-on experience with ACR copper tubing fabrication, bending, fitting, and brazing (with nitrogen purge) strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of HVAC manufacturing, refrigerant piping best practices, nitrogen purging, pressure/vacuum testing, and safety procedures an asset.
  • Experience with sheet metal an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Study drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the layout of refrigerant piping, gas lines, and equipment for air handling units and materials required (including ACR copper tubing).
  • Measure, cut, bend, deburr, fit-up, and mark reference points for installation of copper ACR tubing, gas lines, and equipment using tube cutters, benders, and hand/power tools.
  • Fabricate and assemble copper ACR refrigerant piping circuits (liquid lines, suction lines, and associated headers) for DX cooling coils and air conditioning systems.
  • Perform high-quality torch brazing and soldering of copper-to-copper, copper-to-brass, and copper-to-steel joints using oxy-acetylene equipment, proper brazing alloys/rods, and continuous dry nitrogen purge to prevent internal oxidation, scale formation, and contamination.
  • Install refrigeration components such as thermostatic expansion valves (TXV), filter-driers, sight glasses, solenoid valves, and associated controls into the piping assembly.
  • Install, maintain, and service gas heating units and their components, such as burners, valves, and automatic controls.
  • Conduct nitrogen pressure testing (high-pressure leak testing) on completed piping assemblies; perform leak detection using electronic detectors, soap-bubble solution, or other approved methods; repair or re-braze defective joints as required.
  • Perform system evacuation/dehydration and vacuum testing on refrigerant circuits using vacuum pumps and micron gauges to achieve and verify specified vacuum levels (typically <500 microns).
  • Test and replace defective equipment or components.
  • Test and adjust control mechanisms and check pipes and piping connections for gas leaks using gas detecting devices (and refrigerant leaks using appropriate methods).
  • Clean brazed joints of flux/oxide and perform final quality inspections to ensure leak-free, code-compliant assemblies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
