About The Position

This position is directly responsible to maintain, construct, install, troubleshoot, and repair all air distribution systems services which provide services to the DHS, DYC, PRC and DOC facilities. HVAC-R services provided include maintaining, repairing, installing and coordination of chill water and heating water hydronic systems, absorption and reciprocating chillers, conformance to CFC regulations and Title 15 regulations of the EPA, all air distribution systems which include VAV systems, multi zone systems, local fan-coil and cabinet unit heaters. Additionally, install, maintain, alter and/or repair steam equipment and piping (high and low), air piping, steam traps, condensate equipment and piping, gas piping and all facility pumps. Calibrate and monitor high- and low-pressure gauges of water, steam gas and flow meters and monitor all associated interfaces to the Siemens Building Automation system and oversight of all chemical management programs related to the HVAC-R discipline. Perform daily work assignments, monitor work order progress, procure materials and equipment, perform field inspections of work areas, accurately track time for indirect and direct labor distributions, and ongoing productivity in accordance with regulatory and departmental expectations. Position is responsible for performance issues as relates to departmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • At least three (3) years of experience directly related to this position, such as boilermaker work, pipefitting, fabrication, chillers, air handlers, or similar trades experience.
  • OR A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to this work assignment equal to three (3) years.
  • Must attach transcripts or certification documentation to the application that contains your name, college/school name, type of degree or certification received and the date the degree/certification was completed.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid non-restricted Colorado driver’s license.
  • Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Must successfully pass Motor Vehicle Check.
  • Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.
  • Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Must be available for on call and call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or without interruption.
  • Will be required to work various hours for coverage, weather related issues and essential/emergency services outside of normal business hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant years of state service experience.
  • Experience in HVAC/R troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments on a wide variety of systems supporting patient, client, and laboratory comfort within a large multi-building campus environment.
  • Documented maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience limited primarily to new equipment installation will carry less weight.
  • Demonstrated experience performing work-order-based maintenance services.
  • Excellent oral comprehension skills, including the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Possession of a current and valid welding certification.
  • Must attach a copy of the certification or supporting documentation to get credit for this preferred qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and Repair HVAC Equipment: Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and install all HVAC equipment in compliance with manufacturer's recommendations, local codes, Health department, Joint Commission, and ACA standards.
  • Install, maintain, alter and/or repair steam equipment and piping (high and low), air piping, steam traps, condensate equipment and piping, gas piping and all facility pumps.
  • Calibrate and monitor high- and low-pressure gauges of water, steam gas and flow meters.
  • Troubleshoot and Repair Building Automation: Monitor, Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair building automation controls and systems to ensure the proper operation of air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. These controls include, but not limited to, electric, pneumatic, and DDC.
  • Design and fabricate piping by means of oxygen acetylene cutting, welding, pipe threading, soldering, and caulking of all types of joints and fittings.
  • Specify HVAC Equipment: Specify and evaluate all types of commercial air conditioning equipment including cooling towers, chillers, air handlers, and ductwork for customers. To include calculating loads, estimates of material list and ordering of parts required for installation of equipment.
  • Maintain and Repair Pumps and Valves: Working knowledge of maintenance and repair of pumps and control valves. This includes refrigerant handling, recovery and charging in accordance with State and Federal regulations, Electrical and pneumatic control repair and replacement, piping, cooling towers, absorption chillers, and water cooler chillers and direct expansion unit over 150 tons.
  • Maintain Smoke Control: Maintain the fire and smoke control systems in the air handling, duct and exhaust systems to include communicating with DHS DFM customers on repairs that may affect their office or department including facilities management office. While conforming to all provisions of NFPA.
  • Troubleshoot and Repair Hydronic and Steam Systems: Perform system analysis of process control valves, perform initial troubleshooting and diagnosis of the problem, determine requirements to resolve and repair the problem.
  • Coordinate and plan repairs.
  • Install, alter, repair hangers, supports, and system protections for mechanical piping systems.
  • Designs and measures via shop drawings to fabricate piping by means of oxygen acetylene cutting, welding, pipe threading, soldering, caulking of all types of joints and fittings.
  • Installs, maintains, alters and repairs hot and cold-water piping, air piping, high- and low-pressure steam piping, gas piping, and steam traps.
  • Monitors and repairs control valves, pumps to systems and equipment of heating, ventilating, air conditioning.
  • Prioritizing work orders on an ongoing basis.
  • Making sure that the job is performed completely and correctly.
  • Coordinating work with other technical trade departments.
  • Making sure that the proper PPE (personal protective equipment) is being used.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
