About The Position

An established company supporting construction projects is expanding its mechanical team in NYC. The portfolio is broad — hospitals and labs, K-12 and university campuses, plus commercial interiors from restaurants and retail to hospitality and workplace — so no two projects look alike. This is a hybrid setup with limited travel.

Requirements

  • 4+ years designing HVAC systems for buildings
  • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (or related) from an ABET-accredited program
  • Licensed PE, or ready to get there within a couple of years (EIT counts in your favor)
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, and NEC
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, and MS Office
  • Clear communication with clients, contractors, and team members
  • Reside in the NYC area and able to work a hybrid schedule

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with IBC, IMC, IPC, or IECC
  • Healthcare, life-science, or education project experience
  • Plumbing design knowledge
  • Drive to eventually lead the mechanical discipline

Responsibilities

  • Take mechanical designs from first concept all the way through construction closeout
  • Calculate heating and cooling loads and run energy models (Trace 700 or similar); apply psychrometric analysis to size and select equipment
  • Build system design calculations and specify HVAC equipment
  • Manage energy code compliance (ComCheck, Title 24) and research code questions, raising design issues with the EOR, Design Lead, or PM
  • Survey existing buildings and document HVAC systems and site conditions in the field
  • Draft specifications, design documents, engineering reports, and technical studies
  • Align your design with architects, other disciplines, and stakeholders
  • See projects through construction: review submittals, answer contractor RFIs, walk punch lists

Benefits

  • Pay: $95,000–$120,000 base, set according to skills, experience, and qualifications.
