About The Position

Under direction of the HVAC Supervisor, be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all equipment used in providing utilities, and environmental conditioning to buildings serviced by the Central Plant and package equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with peers, supervisors, and campus population.
  • Ability to work from as-built mechanical, electrical, and site drawings to identify and analyze HVAC and refrigeration equipment malfunctions and performs remedial skilled work.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of test equipment and power tools to perform such work.
  • Experience in utilizing manufacturers equipment manuals and specifications in order to ascertain proper equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Use of this information in ordering and replacement of necessary parts.
  • A working knowledge of computers, microprocessors, and programmable controllers as applied to HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Ability to wear a respirator.
  • EPA technician certification for refrigerant handling.
  • Two years-technical school training or job related equipment-training seminars in HVAC/refrigeration mechanics.
  • Four years work experience in a similar position or an equivalent of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training with Siemens or Johnson Controls building automation systems.
  • Familiarity with present HVAC and refrigeration equipment function and design variations.
  • Awareness of the urgencies that are inherent to University research facilities.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver License and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
  • Must be able to operate a Facilities Management vehicle.
  • Must be willing to work early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends as necessary.
  • Must be able to outside regularly scheduled shift.
  • May work near high voltage, must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment and be able to climb ladders.
