About The Position

The Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) Mechanic installs, services, and repairs environmental-control systems utilizing the knowledge of refrigeration theory. This role involves performing a variety of trade functions related to HVAC systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair. The position also includes responsibilities such as performing startup, turnover, and shutdown procedures, connecting various system components to control panels and power sources, and installing filters. The HVAC Mechanic will also be responsible for testing systems, assembling ductwork, cutting and joining tubing and pipes, and replacing or repairing defective electrical components and wiring related to HVAC units. The role requires the use of electrician’s hand tools and test equipment, leak testing, and ensuring proper system operation. Additionally, the position supports generator readiness and emergency power compliance, including documentation. The mechanic will work from blueprints and drawings to troubleshoot electrical systems and equipment, perform load computations, and conduct Real Property Inventory. Adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations is mandatory, along with performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

Three (3) years related experience.
EPA Section 608 certification is mandatory.
Must be able to read and understand blueprints, construction drawings, schematics and diagrams as they pertain to the craft.
Understanding of safety procedures and ability to work in compliance with OSHA and workplace safety regulations.
Must hold and maintain a Tier 3 (Secret Clearance) or Tier 5 background check (Top Secret / SCI Clearance), as required for the position.
Must be able to maintain the ability to access the government worksite.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.

Nice To Haves

Experience with commercial and industrial systems is preferred.
Additional certifications (e.g., NATE) are highly valued.

Responsibilities

Installs, services, and repairs environmental-control systems, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layouts.
Performs a variety of trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Performs startup, turnover, and shutdown procedures of environmental control systems.
Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
Installs water and air filters in competed installations.
Injects refrigerant into compressor to test systems.
Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation.
Assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts using appropriate tools and welding equipment.
Cuts and bends tubing, cuts and threads pipes, joins tubing and pipes to machinery.
Replaces or repairs defective breaker controls, generators, transformers, controllers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, air conditioning ducting, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units.
Utilizes electrician’s hand tools and test equipment.
Tests for leaks and observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operations.
Supports generator readiness and emergency power compliance, including documentation of inspections, maintenance actions, and operational status.
Work from blueprints, drawings, layout, or other specifications to locate and troubleshoot the electrical system or equipment, working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.
Conduct Real Property Inventory.
Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
