About The Position

ASRC Federal Facilities Logistics, a subsidiary of ASRC Federal is seeking an HVAC Mechanic to support our NASA prime program at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility at Wallops Island, VA. The role involves maintaining, modifying, troubleshooting, repairing, adjusting, calibrating, validating, certifying, testing, and operating domestic and commercial air conditioning and heating units, associated ventilation systems, and building automation controls. This includes adhering to governing laws, policies, and procedures for refrigerant handling, and removing and replacing components such as compressors, condensing units, pumps, fans, and other mechanical parts, while also maintaining related electrical circuitry. The mechanic will conduct equipment troubleshooting and restoration using trade-specific tools and test equipment, and ensure all components are tested and adjusted to manufacturer's specifications.

Requirements

Completed a recognized air conditioning apprentice program, or technical school or have a minimum of five years of experience working as an air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic.
Possess current “Universal” license for reclamation of refrigerants.
Knowledgeable of elementary electricity, including relays, capacitors, and split phase motors.
Basic understanding of system concepts, such as ventilation system components, and how to use them; diffusers, duct work, motorized dampers, heating coils, rudiments of sizing and selection; cooling and refrigeration equipment, use of fans and mixing chambers; logical arrangements of components in a system; types and purposes of control valves; and other associated air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

Responsibilities

Maintain, modify, troubleshoot, repair, adjust, calibrate, validate, certify, test, and operate domestic and commercial air conditioning and heating units, associated ventilation systems, and building automation controls.
Remove and replace refrigerants, compressors, condensing units, pumps, fans, and other mechanical components.
Maintain all related electrical circuitry.
Conduct equipment troubleshooting and restoration utilizing trade-specific tools and test equipment.
Test and adjust all components to manufacturer’s specifications.
Install, operate, maintain, and perform maintenance on all types of domestic and commercial heating, ventilation systems, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems and components.
Troubleshoot systems to determine root cause analysis, make recommendations for repairs and/or replacement of equipment/components, and perform replacement of components or units.
Perform inspections of equipment for damage, wear, inefficient operation, malfunctioning, and evidence of need for overhaul or tear down.
Check components and elements such as valves, pressure gauges, temperature readings, switch settings, gas leaks, bearing wear, overheating, noise, irregular operation of fans, coils, oil separators, condensers, and compressors.
Take temperature readings, test for gas leaks, and inspect tubing and piping for leaks.
Install refrigerant and piping lines, and ductwork per schematic drawings, and connect assemblies in line, such as compressors, condensers, motors, and related units.
Conduct equipment and system commissioning.
Perform P/Ms, repairs, and install additional direct digital controllers to the Energy Management Control System including additional points and slave panels.
Troubleshoot and repair refrigeration equipment.
