About The Position

This is skilled mechanical work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning equipment. An employee in this role performs skilled work which involves installing and repairing air-conditioning equipment according to blueprints and schematic drawings, assembling structural and functional components, and purchasing the necessary supplies and materials for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the equipment. Work is performed under the direction of the assigned administrator and is subject to inspection during and upon completion.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard high school or equivalency diploma.
  • Three (3) years verifiable work experience in the operation and maintenance of assigned area.
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology, as required for the position.
  • Valid Florida Class D driver's license or will obtain within thirty (30) work days.
  • Must be certified by the E.P.A. for handling of CFC’S.
  • Complete set of job related hand tools required.
  • May be required to work on scaffolds, stepladders, and high extension ladders.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others orally and in writing.
  • Exhibit good listening and comprehension skills.
  • Keep others adequately informed.
  • Select and use appropriate communication methods.
  • Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work related problems.
  • Ability to comprehend complex technical topics and specialized information.

  • Required to push, pull or lift up to 40+ pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and maintain all air-conditioning equipment.
  • Read blue-prints and schematic drawings to determine location, size, capacity and type of component needed to repair the unit.
  • Install new air-conditioning units.
  • Purchase material and parts necessary to repair equipment.
  • Recharge air-conditioning systems with refrigerants as necessary.
  • Overhaul compressors, condensers and other equipment as needed.
  • May provide guidance to co-workers in proper procedures and safety.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
