About The Position

As the HVAC Master Mechanic, you will install, service and repair environmental-control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings, and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout. You will mount compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications. You will fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment, and install evaporator units in chassis or in air-duct systems using hand tools. This mechanic also cuts and bends tubing to the correct length and shape, cuts and threads pipe, and joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings, or unions, soldering joints with a torch to form a complete circuit for refrigerant. You will install expansion and discharge valves in the circuit, connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels, and connect control panels to the power source. Additionally, you will install air and water filters in completed installations, inject small amounts of refrigerant into the compressor to test systems, and add Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure. The HVAC mechanic observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation, tests joints and connections for gas leaks, wraps pipes in insulation batting, and secures them with cement or wire bands. You will replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units. This role may also involve installing, repairing, and servicing air conditioners ranging from fifteen to one hundred and fifty tons cooling capacity in warehouses and other large buildings.
