Performs skilled maintenance and repair of heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems and equipment to maintain a comfortable facility environment. The role conducts preventive maintenance on an established schedule, responds to temperature complaints, troubleshoots controls, and services a range of refrigeration and related equipment. It has no supervisory responsibilities and is on-call during the facility’s normal operational hours. The mechanic collaborates with departments and administration on scheduled maintenance, tracks and recommends materials and parts, maintains inventory with attention to cost and regulatory constraints, and operates a state vehicle to pick up parts or travel to job sites. The position may require registrations, professional licenses, and/or certifications from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation or another state. The employee must be willing to pursue additional certifications if necessary. Because the position may involve access to, work on, or research involving critical infrastructure, employment is contingent on successfully completing background checks, including criminal history and other security-related screenings.
