About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for an HVAC Technician for our Facility Management division. The primary mission of Facility Management is to provide a safe and healthful work environment for employees and the public in a cost effective and energy efficient manner. This mission is accomplished by performing routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance to state facilities owned by and allocated to the Department of Administration. The HVAC Mechanic position troubleshoots, calibrates, repairs, and maintains and operates the DDC BAS (Direct Digital Control - Building Automation System) as well as components and sub-systems of an overall HVAC system including electric/electronics speed controllers, pneumatic sensors, electric/pneumatic valves, motors, humidistat’s, pumps, chillers, condensers, air handling units and miscellaneous control elements.

Requirements

  • Valid NC Driver's License. Out of State Applicants must have valid Driver's License and acquire NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
  • Certificate of Completion Asbestos Operation Maintenance and Removal Training within one year of hire.
  • Certificate of Completion Entry Permit Confined Space Training within one year of hire.
  • Current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
  • Respirator medical evaluation is required to verify the individual's ability to wear and use a respirator. This is a condition of employment.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience installing and servicing HVAC equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting chilled water distribution systems (chillers).
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing control systems.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on multiple types of HVAC equipment.
  • Experience servicing computer room a/c systems and install and repair VFDs as well as ability to repair pneumatic controllers, actuators and pressure independent valves.
  • Experience with operating DDC automation systems for building controls, diagnose mechanical/electrical problems using DDC system, train others and diagnose equipment malfunctions and prescribe repair procedures.
  • Division prefers applicants with at least five (5) years of progressive experience in industrial/ commercial HVAC work.
