About The Position

The HVAC Lead Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across various facilities. This position is responsible for leading a team of technicians in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex HVAC equipment. The Lead Mechanic will oversee daily operations, coordinate preventive maintenance schedules, and ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. By leveraging technical expertise and leadership skills, the role aims to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of HVAC systems, thereby supporting a comfortable and safe environment for building occupants. Ultimately, the HVAC Lead Mechanic serves as a key contributor to operational efficiency and customer satisfaction within the organization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited HVAC apprenticeship or technical training program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Valid EPA Section 608 Certification for handling refrigerants.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including air handlers, chillers, boilers, and controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and electrical schematics.
  • Strong diagnostic and mechanical skills.
  • Leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in reading technical documents and schematics.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and safety protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in HVAC technology, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Certification as a Certified HVAC Professional or similar industry-recognized credential.
  • Proven leadership experience in supervising HVAC teams or projects.
  • Familiarity with energy management systems and sustainable HVAC practices.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in HVAC equipment and implement effective solutions promptly to minimize system downtime.
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs to ensure HVAC systems operate efficiently and comply with safety regulations.
  • Coordinate with facility managers and other stakeholders to schedule work and communicate project progress and challenges.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts inventory, and service reports to support operational transparency and compliance.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with local, state, and federal codes, as well as company policies and industry best practices.
