About The Position

As a Lead HVAC Installer, you’ll partner with a Helper to install a wide range of systems and equipment from various manufacturers. Our projects span residential retrofits, new construction, hearth systems, water heating solutions, and emerging technologies, offering variety and challenges to keep you sharp. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Work hours are based on business needs and may vary. Extended hours and weekend work may be required to meet operational demands.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-4 years residential install experience
  • Must pass drug and background screens
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable through the company insurance carrier
  • High school diploma or GED
  • NATE Core, plus 1 additional certification or obtain within 1 year of hire
  • EPA Certified
  • LP License or obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Water Heater Installer License or obtain within 6 months of hire or promotion
  • Intermediate level hearth product installation knowledge and troubleshooting abilities
  • Intermediate level refrigeration - ability to adjust differential pressure and superheat subcooling measurements
  • Ability to take accurate measurements and create drawings for custom sheet metal built in our Sheet Metal Shop
  • Possess knowledge for electrical ohm troubleshooting
  • Possess knowledge for electrical ohm troubleshooting (e.g. checking for shorts, running load amps, testing capacitors, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable in all gas piping design and installation (e.g. underground gas pipe, PE pipe, 2lb systems, etc.)
  • Ability to assess job deficiencies and call for help to try and keep the job on schedule
  • Ability to check static pressures and complete all phases of fire up procedures
  • Ability to set and reconnect air handlers and furnaces without supervision
  • Demonstrated competency and experience with proper brazing techniques (nitrogen purging)
  • Demonstrated competency with evacuation line sets
  • Possess a standard diagnostic toolset
  • Able to communicate clearly in English both verbally and in writing
  • Possess tools necessary to perform work at Install Level 4
  • Ability to work with tools used in the job in a safe manner
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure down to the ⅛”
  • This position requires strong time management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service standards in stressful situations.
  • This position requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
  • This position requires a self-starter with excellent problem-solving, analytical skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • This position requires a minimum of six months prior HVAC installation experience.
  • Requires a high school diploma and/or any equivalent of education and experience to meet the essential functions of the job.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and remain insurable under our company insurance policy.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a professional appearance and attitude at all times
  • Maintains required levels of truck stock items
  • Properly use safety equipment daily, to include but not limited to, gloves, back brace, lifting harness, safety glasses and continual observation of surroundings and team members
  • On a daily basis, the interior of a vehicle should be kept free of trash, debris, unused food and drink. The vehicle interior should be swept free from excess dirt. Vehicle interior compartments should hold all tools and equipment, keeping floor area free from falling and/or rolling items
  • Complete weekly vehicle inspection report
  • Operate company vehicle following all safety standards and applicable laws
  • Follow instructions from supervisor in a timely manner
  • Immediately report any problems with company tools or vehicles to the office
  • Work well with customers, co-workers and other subcontractors
  • Properly prepare the job site using drop cloths, moving furniture or obstructions and prepare surface areas using floor protectors
  • Clean job site. The job site should be picked up and left in a condition better or equivalent to that as when we arrived. This includes moving all trash and debris, sweeping or vacuuming the site, removing all tools, parts, and equipment
  • Properly remove all install flexible ductwork per code
  • Properly support ductwork per code
  • Properly remove equipment per code
  • Use and perform workflow processes on service software through mobile device
  • Complete necessary documentation (notes, photos, forms, time tracking, etc.) to support invoices, estimates, orders, inventory, and other information provided to customers, coworkers, and supervisors as needed
  • Proficient in installing standard ductwork
  • Proficient in laying out and making standard rectangular ductwork in shop
  • Basic understanding of more complex metal fittings (heel, cheek, top, bottom)
  • Must be able to communicate ideas to supervisors and homeowners
  • Can work on standard replacements unassisted and unsupervised
  • Ability to safely use all trade-related tools
  • Safely work off 10” and above ladders, and extension ladders
  • Utilize all safety precautions and always wear appropriate safety equipment
  • Properly connect ductwork to equipment with screws per code
  • Properly seal ductwork per code
  • Properly run ¾ PVC drain lines per code
  • Properly install dryer vent
  • Properly use Bosch hammer drill for drilling holes per code
  • Check out materials on inventory listing from warehouse
  • Obtain positive customer Google reviews
  • Good understanding of job layout, design and organized installation of standard replacement work
  • Residential replacement jobs: Single unit or full systems
  • Install, braze and evacuate line sets
  • Solid understanding of refrigeration to do AC and HP installs
  • Wire all controllers and thermostats
  • Perform all jobs to labor budgets
  • Able to supervise and train others
  • Attend NATE training for specialty certification
  • Complete necessary paperwork to support invoices, estimates, orders, inventory, timecards and other information provided to customers, coworkers, and supervisors as needed
  • Work well with customers, co-workers and other subcontractors
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Training and mentoring helpers
  • Oversee work performance of Helper on the job and constructive feedback and training
