About The Position

IES Residential is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate HVAC Instructor to help develop the next generation of HVAC professionals. This role combines industry expertise with hands-on instruction, giving an experienced HVAC professional the opportunity to train, mentor, and prepare employees for successful careers in the trade. If you have strong residential HVAC experience, a commitment to quality and safety, and a desire to share your knowledge with others, we encourage you to apply. Previous teaching or training experience is preferred but not required.

Requirements

  • Extensive hands-on experience with residential HVAC systems and installations.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC installation, service, replacement, maintenance, and troubleshooting practices.
  • Familiarity with HVAC tools, equipment, applicable codes, safety requirements, and industry standards.
  • Strong instructional, presentation, coaching, and mentoring abilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and adapt instruction to different learning styles and experience levels.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and classroom-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with leadership, instructors, and field personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn training-related systems and software.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to pass required pre-employment screenings, including background and motor vehicle record checks.
  • Sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, and computer use.
  • Hand movements, including typing and equipment operation.
  • Travel as required to support project and operational needs.
  • Stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Sit for extended periods while driving to and between job sites.
  • Work on active job sites, indoors and outdoors, including attics, crawlspaces, and confined or elevated spaces, with exposure to varying weather, construction noise, dust, and other job site conditions.
  • Wear safety gear such as Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Maintain dependable transportation and consistent, reliable attendance to meet customer service and operational needs.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions within established company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime, modified schedules, or occasional weekends as business needs require.
  • Communicate in person, by phone, and electronically, including on a tablet, smartphone, and other office technology.
  • Perform all work on-site and in person; this is not a remote or hybrid position.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without current or future need for employer sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching or training experience is preferred but not required.
  • EPA Section 608 certification and other relevant HVAC licenses or industry certifications are preferred.
  • Spanish-speaking ability is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience related to hvac instructor responsibilities preferred.
  • HVAC industry experience preferred.
  • Relevant industry certifications or licenses preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging classroom and hands-on instruction covering residential HVAC systems, installation, service, replacement, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Teach the proper use of HVAC tools, equipment, materials, and safety practices.
  • Develop practical exercises and real-world simulations that prepare students for field assignments.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to students with varying skill and experience levels.
  • Evaluate student performance through classroom participation, demonstrations, testing, and hands-on assessments.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, training, progress, and program completion records.
  • Partner with leadership and field teams to identify training needs and align instruction with operational objectives.
  • Develop and update lesson plans, instructional materials, and specialty training based on code changes, industry developments, and business needs.
  • Reinforce company quality standards, customer-service expectations, safety requirements, and operational procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and productive classroom and training environment.
  • Support onboarding, continuing education, process improvements, and workforce-development initiatives.
  • Travel periodically to local divisions, training sites, and other company locations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
