About The Position

The HVAC Facility Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible for the hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of commercial HVAC systems across the Central Florida Expressway (CFX) system. The team maintains approximately 292 ground-level and rooftop HVAC units located at toll plazas, administrative buildings, and other CFX facilities throughout Orange, Osceola, and Lake Counties. HVAC work makes up the majority of this position and includes diagnosing system issues, completing repairs and installations, performing preventive maintenance, and safely recovering and handling refrigerants. The Technician will also assist with other facility maintenance needs, including electrical, plumbing, lighting, and general building repairs as needed. The HVAC Technician will work closely with team members, leadership, and vendors to keep critical CFX facilities safe, operational, and properly maintained while gaining additional hands-on experience across multiple facility trades. This is a hands-on field position supporting facilities that operate around the clock. Frequent overtime is expected, and participation in a mandatory on-call rotation is required. Technicians must be available to respond to HVAC failures and other facility emergencies after hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and during severe weather events. The position reports to the Ocoee, FL office and is dispatched to work sites throughout Orange, Osceola, and Lake Counties. A dedicated take-home company truck and fuel card are provided for work-related travel.

Requirements

Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and equipment.
Knowledge of HVAC installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair.
Understanding of refrigeration cycles, refrigerants, pressures, electrical components, controls, and mechanical HVAC systems.
Knowledge of proper refrigerant recovery, handling, and documentation procedures.
Familiarity with rooftop units, ground-mounted units, air handlers, exhaust systems, thermostats, motors, compressors, and related components.
Proven ability to independently troubleshoot HVAC problems and identify the cause of equipment failures.
Hands-on ability to install, repair, replace, and service HVAC equipment and components.
Ability to safely use refrigerant recovery equipment, HVAC diagnostic tools, meters, gauges, hand tools, and power tools.
Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical components associated with HVAC systems.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound repair decisions in the field.
Basic computer skills for work orders, service documentation, maintenance checklists, and electronic records.
Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, teammates, inspectors, contractors, and facility personnel.
Ability to work safely on rooftops, ladders, elevated areas, and around ground-mounted HVAC equipment.
Ability to work outdoors year-round in Florida heat, humidity, rain, and changing weather conditions.
Ability to lift 50–60 lbs., climb ladders, kneel, stoop, crouch, and work in confined or elevated spaces.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls and maintenance priorities.
Ability to travel throughout assigned CFX facilities using a company-provided vehicle.
Ability and willingness to work significant overtime.
Ability to participate in a mandatory on-call schedule and respond to frequent emergency call-outs within required response times.
Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and during storms or emergency operations when required.
Ability to stay overnight when necessary during storm or emergency operations.
Must live within a reasonable response time of the yard/project area to meet emergency response requirements.

EPA 608 Universal
HVAC Technical or trade school certification or license
OSHA 10 or 30
Must be at least 23 years old (per company insurance requirements).
Minimum of 5 years of HVAC experience
Must possess an active and valid Florida driver’s license with no restrictions and be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and maintain insurability under company policy.
Basic math, reading, and recordkeeping skills to complete work orders and material logs accurately.
Ability to obtain Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) or Flagger certification within company timelines.
Willing and able to travel within the assigned district and report to different work sites; living within a reasonable response time to the yard is preferred.
Compliance with the company's Drug and Alcohol Policy; able to pass pre-employment and random testing. A background check and job-related physical may be required.

Nice To Haves

General knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and commercial building maintenance is beneficial.
Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) or other electronic work order systems.
Prior experience working on DOT, tolling, or similar highway facility projects.

Responsibilities

Perform hands-on installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of commercial HVAC systems.
Diagnose HVAC equipment failures and determine appropriate repairs or replacement of components.
Work on rooftop and ground-mounted HVAC units throughout CFX facilities.
Recover, handle, and manage refrigerants using proper equipment and procedures.
Install, repair, and replace HVAC components, including compressors, motors, fans, capacitors, contactors, thermostats, controls, belts, filters, coils, and related equipment.
Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues associated with HVAC equipment.
Inspect and maintain air-handling equipment, exhaust systems, fans, ductwork, drains, and related components.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to identify problems before equipment failure occurs.
Respond to HVAC failures and emergency service calls, including after-hours situations requiring immediate response.
Maintain accurate service records, work orders, refrigerant documentation, and maintenance logs.
Perform additional commercial facility maintenance when needed, including basic electrical, plumbing, lighting, doors, roofing, drywall, ceiling/floor tile, and general building repairs.
Inspect facilities and equipment to identify maintenance or safety concerns.
Coordinate with supervisors, team members, vendors, and contractors when specialized repairs or additional support are required.
Travel throughout the CFX Highway System to assigned facilities using a company-provided vehicle.
Load, unload, and transport tools, equipment, parts, refrigerants, and materials as needed.
Follow OSHA requirements, company safety procedures, and proper PPE practices at all times.
Work frequent overtime based on operational needs.
Participate in a mandatory on-call rotation with frequent emergency call-outs, including nights, weekends, holidays, storms, and other emergency events.
Perform other duties as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor or Project Manager to support facility operations.
