About The Position

HVAC/Electrical Assistant (Safety Services Department) PowerSouth Energy Cooperative , headquartered in Andalusia, AL, is a generation and transmission (G&T) electric cooperative with 22 distribution members - 18 electric distribution systems and four municipal electric systems - in Alabama and northwest Florida. PowerSouth's member systems provide power to end-use consumers across 51 counties in Alabama and 10 counties in Florida. JOB SUMMARY & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The purpose of this position is to assist in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair at PowerSouth Headquarters, Point A facilities, Roby House, Telecommunications facilities and district offices heating and cooling systems, electrical circuitry, related refrigeration equipment, fire alarm, access doors and gates, piping and miscellaneous equipment to ensure continuous operation and optimal efficiency of equipment. Incumbent must possess a certificate or Associate degree in HVAC, Industrial Electronics, or a related field. In addition, incumbent must hold the EPA Section 608 Technician Universal Certification and must also possess a valid driver's license. Incumbent must be capable of installing, troubleshooting and performing required major and minor preventative maintenance to central heating and cooling units, and other electrical and mechanical equipment. Incumbent must be proficient with multimeter, amp prob, refrigerant gauges and refrigerant reclaiming pump and associated equipment as well as must possess the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and circuitry specifications, bills of material, etc. Incumbent must have the ability to work independently and to make timely decisions as needed. The position requires the ability to operate a vehicle in a constant state of alertness, safely and without being a direct threat to self or others, either with or without any reasonable accommodations.

Requirements

  • Incumbent must possess a certificate or Associate degree in HVAC, Industrial Electronics, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with installing, maintaining and troubleshooting the HVAC equipment, including control systems for same, drinking fountains and ice machines; performs repairs promptly, with a systematic preventative maintenance program.
  • Assists with installing and maintaining lighting and electrical systems and equipment, including UPS (uninterruptible power supplies), standby generator sets and associated computer control systems, and overhead cranes at PowerSouth Headquarters.
  • Assists with maintaining fire alarm/suppression systems, including computer controls for same.
  • Assists with maintaining and installing janitorial equipment and small appliances, including snack food vending machines.
  • Assists with performing general maintenance tasks for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
  • Assists with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting access doors, entry gates and roll up doors at Headquarters and district offices.
  • Assists with installing and repairing iron piping and associated equipment, to include pumps, valves and control switches.
  • Responsible for ensuring the success of PowerSouth by promoting teamwork, group goals and objectives, properly communicating and cooperating within the PowerSouth organization and with member systems as well as demonstrating and promoting standards of respect and dignity, accountability, integrity, and trustworthiness.
