About The Position

Johnson Controls Inc. is seeking skilled HVAC Mechanics with practical work experience in their trade, including HVAC piping, plumbing, pipefitting, and/or mechanical equipment service. The role involves working with light commercial and/or heavy commercial teams, utilizing advanced heavy commercial and cutting-edge industrial equipment. The position requires a commitment to providing the highest level of service to customers, solving facility inefficiencies, and resolving service-related issues. As a trusted advisor, the mechanic will offer solutions during commissioning and aftermarket service, provide recommendations for efficient facility operation, and identify upselling opportunities. The role also involves providing quotes for recommended solutions.

Requirements

  • Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry and Industrial Petro-Chemical, or Data Center vertical environments.
  • Experience with Rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, and plumbing.
  • Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers and/or ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
  • Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
  • Able to install complete systems (Chillers, Rooftop Units, plumbing and all supporting mechanical systems).
  • Mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, laser, etc., of pumps, fans, Compressors.
  • Able to use vibration equipment to trouble shoot drivelines.
  • Travel may be required 10% to 20% to support Branch Customers activities, troubleshooting, installation, and repair.
  • Required to pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
  • Attention to detail through interpersonal, digital, and written skills.
  • Able to write and communicate to the customer problem, cause, and corrective actions.
  • Self-starter with a passion/desire to learn and apply on the job.
  • Prioritize safety in all forms.
  • Universal EPA refrigerants license.
  • Applicable state or local licensing.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with air-cool or water-cooled machines.
  • Experience in light commercial or commercial mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
  • Repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and/or ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
  • Install complete systems, including chillers, rooftop units, plumbing, and all supporting mechanical systems.
  • Perform mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, lasers, etc., for pumps, fans, and compressors.
  • Use vibration equipment to troubleshoot drivelines.
  • Provide customers with the highest level of service to solve facility inefficiencies and resolve service-related items.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to customers, providing solutions and outcomes at the time of commissioning and aftermarket service.
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facilities are running efficiently, including identifying upselling opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
  • Work with other local market mechanics, servicemen, and apprentices, and provide on-the-job training when necessary.
  • Write and communicate to the customer the problem, cause, and corrective actions.

  • Pay Rate: $43.05 Hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet.
