About The Position

UAMS is seeking an HVAC & Controls Systems Manager to lead the maintenance, repair, and modification of critical systems serving our campus’s medical, educational, and research facilities. Your expertise will help maintain safe, comfortable, and reliable environments for patients, students, and employees. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Engineering & Operations for HVAC, Controls, and Plumbing, you will manage the maintenance and modification of the Building Automation System (BAS) that controls HVAC equipment, along with the campus’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) equipment. You will also oversee maintenance and repairs during non-standard business hours and assist with campus facility problems and emergencies. This role offers the opportunity to put your technical knowledge and leadership into action where dependable building systems make a meaningful difference every day.

Requirements

  • HS diploma/GED plus 10 years of HVAC Control’s experience with additional 5 years supervisory experience
  • Valid driver’s license with fewer than 12 points on their Motor Vehicle Record
  • Computer program proficiency level: Intermediate
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate Degree with a Major in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Similar.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting
  • CHFM or CHC
  • Computer program proficiency level: Advanced

Responsibilities

  • Oversees utility personnel within the Engineering and Operations Department, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff.
  • Approves employee leave, schedules training, completes performance evaluations, and oversees employee discipline.
  • Reviews, prioritizes, and assigns utility-related work orders to appropriate personnel.
  • Supervises and evaluates work, ensuring necessary corrections are made.
  • Ensures work orders are completed promptly and closes completed work orders.
  • Ensures required activities and testing comply with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Develops and implements quality control measures.
  • Assists with budget preparation and ensures assigned areas operate within established budgets.
  • Purchases materials and equipment for utility operations.
  • Manages departmental supply inventory.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
