About The Position
Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin & Upper Michigan (LSS) is seeking a Human Service Professional to join their team at Gaining Ground, a resource center dedicated to providing a safe, stigma-free environment for individuals living with mental illness and those experiencing homelessness. The mission is to deliver trauma-informed, recovery-focused services that help individuals gain stability and become active members of the community. This role is for someone with experience supporting individuals in crisis, including those navigating homelessness, mental health challenges, or the criminal justice system.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services related field (examples include Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Counseling, Sociology, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, and others). Degrees not listed may require transcript review.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work in community-based environments.
- Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Comfort working with individuals experiencing crisis.
- Ability to use electronic health records and standard computer applications.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional human services to individuals and groups across a variety of settings, including community locations, shelters, jails, offices, and schools.
- Deliver services in person or through audio/visual platforms.
- Assist with BadgerCare/Medicaid & FoodShare enrollment.
- Provide assistance with Social Security, IDs, employment, and housing applications.
- Offer mental health coordination & recovery support.
- Provide life skills, coping skills, and budgeting support.
- Assist with medication management.
- Support education coordination (GED, technical college).
- Provide Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) support.
- Collaborate with clients and service teams.
- Maintain accurate documentation.
- Apply evidence-based practices.
- Help individuals build independence and stability.
