About The Position

This is a hybrid position with up to three days out of the office based on business needs. Pierce County Human Services is seeking a dedicated and community-centered Human Services Coordinator to lead outreach efforts that connect low-income households with energy assistance resources and supportive services. This position plays a critical role in increasing awareness, accessibility, and participation in energy assistance programs through strategic outreach, community partnerships, education, and engagement activities throughout Pierce County. Community Action Programs help households meet basic needs, improve self-sufficiency, and strengthen community well-being. This position provides an opportunity to make a direct impact by helping families maintain utility service, reduce energy burden, and access resources that promote long-term stability. Pierce County Human Services exists to ensure that every person in our community has the opportunity to live with dignity, stability, and hope. As the county’s community and human services department, we strengthen the local safety net by investing in programs that support people at every stage of life—from early childhood and youth development to housing stability, behavioral health, disability support, and services for seniors, veterans, immigrants, and refugees. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in public administration, social services, communications, DEI or a closely related field
Two or more years of community engagement or program management experience.
Customer service and modern administrative practices.
Ability to communicate effectively with audiences of various social, cultural, ethnic, educational, and economic backgrounds.
Ability to maintain professionalism with the public and fellow employees, even in stressful and unpleasant situations.
Multi-tasking skills.
Computer savvy.
Quick learner.
Reliability.
Attention to detail to produce accurate work.

Nice To Haves

Experience teaching, training, and working with individuals and organizations promoting equitable access to social services.
Familiarity with historically disadvantaged groups.
Fluency in English and one or more languages common to the historically disadvantaged.

Responsibilities

Coordinate outreach initiatives to increase awareness and participation in energy assistance programs among low-income households.
Develop and maintain partnerships with utility companies, community-based organizations, schools, faith communities, housing providers, and other stakeholders to expand access to services.
Plan and participate in community events, resource fairs, neighborhood meetings, and outreach activities.
Create clear, responsive, and welcoming educational materials, presentations, and communications that explain available energy assistance programs and clearly tell people eligibility requirements.
Analyze outreach efforts, evaluate program effectiveness, and provide recommendations to support continuous improvement.
