About The Position

The Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Services Unit is seeking a part-time Relief Worker to supplement case coverage of full-time counselors for the Detention Diversion Program (DDP). This employee closely monitors the youth's behavior at home and in the community, primarily on weekends, to ensure compliance with the Court's rules and regulations. Juvenile offenders are a diverse group who may have parents with limited English skills. The Detention Diversion Program (DDP) serves as an alternative to secure detention for some juvenile offenders. Instead of being detained at the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center while awaiting a detention hearing, youths may be allowed to return home with their parents/guardians under court order.

Requirements

  • Ability to complete documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Capacity to work independently to communicate client compliance and coordinate services among the DDP team members.
  • Proficient English grammar, writing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work with information of a legal, sensitive and confidential nature.
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Some experience providing human services, counseling, and/or probation services in the criminal justice field.
  • Must possess a valid Driver License.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining daily contact with clients on DDP caseload by telephone, in person visits, at their home, office, school or employment, including weekends and holidays.
  • Providing face-to-face contact with the parent or guardian per week, exceptions are made based on the case and when clients have legitimate emergencies or permission to be out of the area.
  • Documenting time contacting DDP clients over the weekend (and on holidays when applicable) and submitting time in PRISM on Monday mornings.
  • Maintaining updated case notes, including weekend coverage and hand-written case notes must be entered into BADGE system, and submitted to the DDP Supervisor every Wednesday.
  • Collaborating with DDP relief unit and Supervisor when necessary to discuss issues concerning caseloads.
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
