About The Position

The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office (ILSOS) is seeking a Human Resources Trainer (HR Trainer) to join its Personnel Team in Chicago. This role is crucial for delivering mandatory and elective training programs to all new and existing employees, with a primary focus on leading new employee orientations in Chicago. The HR Trainer will also contribute to developing new training materials and programs, making recommendations for improvements, and assisting with other onboarding functions such as fingerprinting and benefits sign-ups. Approximately 75% of the role will focus on training and onboarding, with the remaining 25% dedicated to other hiring and onboarding duties, including processing personnel transactions, conducting interviews, and assisting with special projects.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college, with coursework in public or business administration.
  • Three years of responsible professional experience in a public or private organization.
  • Professional, competent, and engaging presentation skills for groups of varying sizes.
  • Ability to respond to questions warmly, empathetically, accurately, and completely.
  • Organized, diligent, and timely in handling all preparation and paperwork for training sessions.
  • Possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s License and insurance.
  • Must be lawfully authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Chicago New Employee Orientations (NEOs), including presenting the program, preparing materials, grading tests, and managing follow-up paperwork.
  • Analyze and summarize evaluations from NEO attendees to propose improvements.
  • Develop and lead targeted training in other ILSOS areas, such as Customer Service, Ethics, Sexual Harassment, Discipline, Right to Know, Completing Performance Evaluations, Attendance Monitoring, and FMLA.
  • Assist with the ILSOS hiring and onboarding process as directed.
  • Travel to various sites within the State of Illinois.
  • Back up front desk/reception staff and/or test room staff as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
