About The Position

The mission of the Louisiana Department of Health is to protect and promote health and to ensure access to medical, preventive, and rehabilitative services for all residents of the State of Louisiana. Step into a high-impact role with the Louisiana Department of Health’s Employee Relations team, where your expertise will help shape fair, consistent, and supportive HR practices statewide. As one of three regional specialists, you will lead the investigation and disciplinary process for LDH, while also supporting critical statewide programs including grievances, EEOC matters, Civil Service appeals, ADA accommodations, Affirmative Action, and Continuous Performance Management. This role serves as a trusted consultant to LDH leaders and employees, offering guidance on complex and sensitive matters involving Civil Service rules, state and federal laws, and departmental policy. Requirements

  • Six years of human resources experience; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of human resources experience; OR A bachelor’s degree plus three years of human resources experience; OR An advanced degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, industrial and organizational psychology, organizational behavior, or a Juris Doctorate plus two years of human resources experience.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
  • Designation as a Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates, and tracks disciplinary actions across the agency.
  • Coordinates with supervisors, top management, and legal counsel to draft disciplinary letters.
  • Counsels employees and management to resolve conflicts before formal grievances are filed.
  • Investigates high-level complaints and processes EEOC complaints and civil service subpoenas.
  • Participates in and occasionally facilitates ICPT/ADA meetings.
  • Interprets ADA policies, determines accommodation eligibility, and advises staff.
  • Coordinates with physicians and rehabilitation counselors to gather medical information.
