About The Position

Contributes to the efficient daily operation of the Human Resources department by performing a variety of administrative and human resources functions to support recruitment, staffing, onboarding, and training. This role specifically handles contracted staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of progressive work experience in human resources or a related environment.
  • Valid driver’s license is required when operating a vehicle for work-related purposes.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment requirements.
  • Knowledge of: Goals, objectives, functions, policies, procedures, and responsibilities of the North Slope Borough School District.
  • Knowledge of: Applicable laws, codes, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of: Records management practices.
  • Knowledge of: Concepts, trends, principles, and practices of recruitment and employment.
  • Skill in: Reading, reviewing, preparing, and analyzing operational reports, contracts, minutes, resolutions, ordinances, and other business-related documents.
  • Skill in: Analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Skill in: Preparing comprehensive, concise, and accurate reports.
  • Skill in: Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Skill in: Mathematics for accurate calculations for salary and invoice payments, and in performing other mathematical calculations across multiple operational tasks.
  • Skill in: Office software and industry-related applications, including spreadsheets, databases, and industry-related applications in a Windows environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supports recruitment and hiring processes in accordance with organizational guidelines, employment regulations, and negotiated agreements.
  • Reviews transcripts and verifies years of service to place staff on the appropriate salary placements.
  • Reviews, drafts, and processes contracts and contract modifications, and other documents; maintains and updates data in the Human Resources information system.
  • Reviews applications and personnel forms for accuracy and completeness.
  • Creates and posts job postings; prepares hiring documents as needed.
  • Conducts new hire orientations and onboarding.
  • Creates and/or assists with preparing, coordinating, and submitting required local, state, and federal human resources reports and documentation in collaboration with appropriate staff and departments, and other reports as necessary.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries from employees and the public regarding personnel procedures.
  • Coordinates appointments and travel arrangements and assembles meeting materials.
  • Performs service and employment verifications.
  • Administers drug and alcohol testing in accordance with established procedures; ensures complete and accurate documentation, as necessary.
  • Maintains and updates employee personnel records, files, and human resources documentation in compliance with confidentiality requirements and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provides guidance and support to employees regarding human resources policies and procedures.
  • Builds and fosters effective working relationships with others.
  • Enhances professional development and maintains knowledge by conducting research; attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; and conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
  • Contributes to a team effort to achieve goals and deliver successful outcomes.
  • Ability to cross-train in other human resources functions.
  • Performs other related duties, consistent with the scope, level, and minimum qualifications of the position, as assigned.
