About The Position

The Human Resources Business Partner provides professional-level human resources support for assigned classified employee groups, including AFSCME, MAPE, Managerial Plan, and the Unrepresented Compensation Plan. This position serves as a key point of contact for employees and supervisors, offering guidance on human resources policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements to ensure consistent and compliant application of employment practices. Working under general supervision, the position supports core HR functions such as employee and labor relations, classification and compensation processes, benefits administration, and unemployment coordination. The role assists in resolving workplace issues, supports grievance and investigation processes, and contributes to the implementation of HR programs and initiatives. This position helps ensure that HR services are delivered in a timely, accurate, and equitable manner, supporting effective workforce management and a positive employee experience while maintaining compliance with institutional, system, and regulatory requirements. This position has access to and uses documents/data containing labor relations information as defined by M.S. 13.37 and will serve as a resource to the management team for labor relations information as defined in M.S. 13.37, used in collective bargaining.

Requirements

  • 2 years of professional Human Resources experience performing work in selection, classification, or any transactions related to employment.
  • Basic knowledge of Human Resources functions such as benefits, leaves, retirement, compensation, payroll, classification structures, collective bargaining agreements, recruiting and selection processes, and worker’s compensation procedures.
  • Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt and accurate information to customers on the phone, in person, or through written correspondence and effectively communicate information with tact, courtesy and diplomacy in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving & decision-making skills necessary to independently perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and carry out assignments with minimal supervision while keeping supervisor and team members informed.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities/projects and simultaneously delivering quality results while meeting strict established deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Business, or a related field may substitute for 2 years of direct HR experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Minnesota State Colleges and Universities experience.
  • 1 year or more Minnesota State experience.
  • 3 or more years of general human resources experience.
  • Experience working in a multi-union or higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional HR development.
