About The Position

Arboreal Management is seeking a Human Resources Manager to serve as the primary point of contact for its 220 employees. This role focuses on employee engagement, employee relations, and essential HR functions to support a growing, distributed workforce. The HR Manager will handle critical conversations, conduct investigations, coach managers, and develop programs to foster employee connection. This is a hands-on role reporting to the CFO, ideal for someone skilled in interpersonal interactions, maintaining composure in challenging situations, and establishing processes to address recurring issues. The company has dedicated recruiter and payroll administrator roles, allowing this position to focus on people operations.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience with significant depth in employee relations.
  • Direct experience conducting workplace investigations and documenting them defensibly.
  • Proven track record of coaching managers to improve their people management practices.
  • Experience running engagement, retention, or culture programs and measuring their effectiveness.
  • Working knowledge of federal and multi-state employment law, including Washington and Oregon.
  • Experience with benefits administration, leave management, and an HRIS.
  • Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to build credibility with diverse groups, from maintenance technicians to executives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.

  • Experience in property management, affordable housing, hospitality, healthcare, retail, or another distributed, multi-site workforce.
  • Experience supporting an offshore or international team.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for employees across corporate, site teams, and offshore staff regarding questions, concerns, and conflicts.
  • Conduct workplace investigations, including intake, interviews, documentation, findings, and recommendations, escalating high-risk matters as needed.
  • Coach managers through difficult conversations, documentation, performance improvement plans, accommodations, and terminations to ensure consistent handling.
  • Mediate conflicts between employees and teams to prevent escalation.
  • Identify patterns in complaints, exits, and site issues to address underlying problems proactively.
  • Manage employee engagement initiatives, including surveys, analysis, and implementing visible changes.
  • Develop and manage recognition programs to ensure good work is acknowledged.
  • Oversee company-wide communications and connective events for a dispersed workforce.
  • Conduct stay and exit interviews, tracking and reporting on retention and turnover data.
  • Manage the day-to-day employee experience for the offshore team.
  • Oversee the performance review cycle from start to finish, including calibration, scheduling, and follow-through.
  • Identify and deliver manager training or arrange for external facilitators.
  • Support career path conversations, particularly for site staff seeking advancement.
  • Maintain and deliver onboarding and training programs, including new-hire orientation.
  • Administer benefits enrollment, changes, and open enrollment, serving as the main contact for employees and the broker.
  • Manage leave, accommodations, PTO, and L&I claims from initiation to return-to-work.
  • Oversee the HRIS as the system of record for employee data, organizational structure, and documentation, and generate necessary reports.
  • Process employee lifecycle changes such as promotions, transfers, compensation adjustments, and offboarding, coordinating with Payroll.
  • Partner with the Payroll Administrator by providing and verifying employee data changes for each payroll cycle.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, Washington, and Oregon employment law, and coordinate with the Philippines team on local requirements.
  • Maintain and update the employee handbook and HR policies, ensuring employee understanding.
  • Maintain personnel files, I-9s, and confidential records to audit standards.
  • Keep required postings, filings, and training assignments current.
  • Partner with the Recruiter on hiring plans, offer decisions, and compensation consistency.
  • Support hiring managers with interview quality, selection criteria, and internal candidates.
  • Manage the process from offer acceptance to the first day to ensure a seamless onboarding experience.
