About The Position

The Canadian Human Resource Manager role will be an on-site position in our Concord, Ontario location providing hands-on support to one or more sites. This position will act as the primary HR contact for employees and leaders within assigned sites, focusing on employee relations, culture & engagement, coaching & manager development, managing HR processes, recruitment activities, policy management, HR data processing as well as onboarding and offboarding activities. Additionally, this position will assist with other HR-related initiatives and projects as needed to support both the HR team and the broader organization in Canada. They will partner with site management to drive a positive workplace culture, workforce planning and talent retention. As the in country HR resource supporting the company’s Canadian operations, this role holds primary accountability for Canadian statutory HR compliance and will lead special HR projects across the Canadian business, escalating complex matters to the Chief Human Resources Officer as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required or commensurate additional years of experience.
Minimum of six years of HR generalist type experience supporting over 150 employees, multiple site support, and multiple HR functional areas, with employee relations experience preferred.
Experience supporting multi-site industrial, manufacturing or aviation operations.
Strong knowledge of Canadian employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
General working familiarity with applicable Canadian Labour laws and regulations.
Knowledge of general office clerical procedures.
Strong computer skills with expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience and comfort within HRIS and ATS systems (UKG, Paycom or like systems).
Ability to regularly exercise sound judgment.
Maintain a professional presence, act with integrity, and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to organize and plan work adhering to deadlines; attention to detail and ability to maintain the confidentiality of information; excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy; ability to read, write, and understand the English language and to follow verbal and written instruction; multi-tasking a necessity; thorough knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; ability to type with accuracy and speed; ability to maintain a good working relationship with co-workers and to project a positive, concerned image to the public; ability to work without supervision; ability to adjust to rapidly changing circumstances and priorities.

Responsibilities

Act as a resource for handling employee relations matters, conducting investigations, resolving workplace issues for multiple locations, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies.
Manage responsibility for talent acquisition for multiple locations and support hiring managers throughout the hiring process up to and including onboarding new hires. This role includes responsible for outreach to designated groups under Canada’s federal Employment Equity Act (women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and members of visible minorities).
Provide coaching and guidance to managers on effective practices, employee performance, and development strategies to enhance managerial effectiveness.
Advise on human resource policies and programs to ensure alignment with business goals and objectives and prevent or mitigate compliance issues; develop, update, and communicate human resources policies to employees; participate in various internal and external audits; identify and implement human resources best practices consistent with Company policies and procedures suitable for the business group; maintain compliance records, conduct research, and prepare reports.
Serves as the primary owner of statutory HR compliance for the Canadian operation, including the Canada Labour Code (labour standards, occupational health & safety, and labour relations provisions), the Canadian Human Rights Act and workplace harassment and violence prevention requirements, the Employment Equity Act, the Pay Equity Act, the Accessible Canada Act, and applicable federal privacy legislation (PIPEDA); escalates complex or novel questions to the Company CHRO.
Leads and supports special HR projects across the Canadian business, including adapting U.S. corporate HR programs (e.g., performance management) for Canadian requirements, integration, policy harmonization, and systems initiatives, partnering with U.S.-based HR and business leadership as needed.
Act as a point of contact for HR-related inquiries, including benefits, payroll, leaves of absence, and workplace accommodations, escalating complex issues to the appropriate team member as needed.
Assist in identifying workforce trends, turnover concerns, and opportunities for retention strategies across locations.
Support ongoing efforts to improve the performance and satisfaction of employees through a variety of educational methods and programs; conduct skills inventory and recommending solutions for addressing gaps; develop, coordinate, and deliver various training programs to include onboarding, performance management, management skills, and annual compliance training; support change management initiatives.
Supports day-to-day HR operations including assisting with processing employee changes and new hires, assisting with recruiting, administering compensation activities, managing unemployment claims, running HR reports, and responding to HR inquiries.
Provides support for terminations, create/maintain job descriptions, and helps facilitate New Hire Orientation.
Conducts employee relations investigations, assists with drug and alcohol program management, compiles HR metrics, and supports employee surveys.
Contributes to key HR projects including but not limited to required reporting, HR policy development and implementation, employee training administration, and all other applicable human resources compliance requirements as requested or directed by the CHRO.
Will participate in and support safety initiatives, safe work practices, and compliance.
Will participate in safety activities including the following: immediately reporting hazards, unsafe work practices, and accidents/injuries.
Will follow all safety rules, Transport Canada regulations, PPE compliance, and equipment operation requirements.
