About The Position

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all human resources functions for Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, serving as both a strategic partner to leadership and a hands-on resource for employees and managers. This position oversees the development, implementation, and administration of HR policies, programs, and procedures that align with organizational goals, support workforce effectiveness, and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and healthcare regulations. The HR Manager provides leadership in talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits administration, workforce planning, employee engagement, and organizational development. The successful candidate will possess strong experience developing HR strategies and aligning policies, programs, and practices with industry best practices while fostering a positive, inclusive, and employee-centered culture. This role requires the ability to navigate complex workplace challenges with professionalism, sound judgment, compassion, and integrity while balancing the operational and strategic responsibilities of human resources. The HR Manager oversees the full recruitment and onboarding process, including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, background screening, and new hire orientation, and partners with leaders to retain, develop, and support a high-performing workforce dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care. Preferred candidates will hold a SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification and demonstrate strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, employee relations, and HR best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Psychology, or related field
  • 5–7+ years progressive HR experience
  • Must be able to demonstrate initiative in problem solving, critical thinking skills and project management skills.
  • Able to demonstrate a responsibility for departmental success.
  • All employees are required to comply with all laws, regulatory guidelines, and health care policies. This includes, but is not limited to federal, state and local laws, applicable State Departments of Health, Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Deaconess Policies and Procedures.
  • All employees are required to be compliant with hand hygiene guidelines as well as to adhere to safe practices, identify and report unsafe practices.
  • There are mental and emotional requirements for all positions working in a health care setting due to the nature of the services provided. The requirements include handling multiple priorities, making decisions under pressure, working near others and/or in a distracted environment, managing anger/fear/hostility, managing stress appropriately, working with others effectively, and working alone effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with department heads and leadership to align HR programs with operational and workforce needs
  • Oversee full-cycle hiring for exempt and non-exempt roles, including job posting strategy, candidate sourcing, offer approvals, and hiring manager coaching.
  • Investigate and resolve employee relations issues, apply company policies, and recommend actions consistent with precedent
  • Administer merit cycles, off-cycle adjustments, job evaluations, and market benchmarking; ensure compliance with federal/state employment laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, Title VII, FLSA)
  • Create, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures
  • Ensure adherence to employment laws and regulations; manage legal risk
  • Support performance reviews, performance improvement plans, and employee development
  • Forecast staffing needs, conduct succession planning, and manage job descriptions
  • Foster a positive workplace culture, improve employee experience, and drive retention initiatives
  • Implement and manage HR systems to support HR operations
