About The Position

The Cleveland Orchestra is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to support the day-to-day people operations of the organization. This is a highly visible, hands-on role that works closely with managers, musicians, staff, and leadership in a complex and collaborative environment. The Human Resources Manager will serve as a trusted partner to managers and employees, supporting recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, HR systems, and organizational initiatives that contribute to a high-performing workplace culture. This role requires sound judgment, strong execution, emotional intelligence, and a steady, professional approach to sensitive situations.

Requirements

  • 5 - 7 years of progressive HR experience in roles with broad generalist responsibility
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Strong judgment, professionalism, and ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and consistency
  • Demonstrated experience managing recruitment processes and partnering effectively with hiring managers.
  • Strong organizational and operational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience navigating employee relations matters, manager coaching, and workplace conflict professionally and calmly
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build credibility and trust across varied personalities and working styles
  • Experience with HRIS systems, applicant tracking systems, and Microsoft 365 applications
  • Collaborative, accountable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment and onboarding processes for staff positions, managing multiple concurrent searches and partnering with managers to attract, select, and onboard employees.
  • Partner with managers on staffing, hiring strategy, workforce planning, and job design.
  • Serve as a resource to managers and employees on employee relations, workplace concerns, performance management, and policy interpretation.
  • Conduct and document workplace investigations and support performance improvement and corrective action processes.
  • Coordinate employee training, professional development, onboarding, and performance management initiatives.
  • Support compensation administration, HR systems management, employee data integrity, and organizational reporting.
  • Help strengthen organizational consistency through thoughtful HR processes, clear communication, and strong follow-through.
  • Support employee engagement and organizational culture initiatives.
  • Ensure HR practices remain aligned with organizational policies, operational standards, and employment laws.
