About The Position

This role serves as the primary HR point person for Sur La Table's Brownsburg Distribution Center. The HR Manager will be responsible for managing full-cycle recruiting, overseeing the employee lifecycle, ensuring compliance and safety, and fostering relationships with a large hourly workforce. Key objectives in the first six to twelve months include establishing trust as the on-site HR partner, optimizing recruiting and onboarding processes, and providing data-driven workforce reports to leadership. This is a hands-on role within a lean team, requiring end-to-end responsibility and quick decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience.
  • Distribution center or warehouse background strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience managing full-cycle recruiting, including high-volume and seasonal hiring.
  • Working knowledge of FMLA and leave of absence administration.
  • Solid understanding of federal and state employment law.
  • Ability to translate AI capabilities into business outcomes.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems; Paylocity experience a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Clear, confident communicator in writing and in person.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Smartsheet.
  • Available to work onsite five days per week; office hours may vary based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle recruiting for Distribution Center roles, including posting, screening, offers, and Day 1 clearance, with increased volume during peak seasons.
  • Oversee temporary staffing operations, managing agency relationships, onboarding/offboarding, and timesheet submissions.
  • Own the new hire experience from start to finish, including facilitating orientation, ensuring system readiness, and conducting structured check-ins.
  • Manage attendance tracking, timecard edits, call-off documentation, and policy enforcement.
  • Administer the leave of absence process in partnership with AbsencePro, handling communications, approvals, and follow-ups.
  • Provide initial response for workers' compensation claims and escalate complex cases with proper documentation.
  • Monitor performance management completion and rating reports, keeping leadership informed of review timelines.
  • Coordinate monthly safety topics, annual training, and LMS compliance reporting.
  • Produce and distribute regular HR reports (headcount, rosters, terminations, OSHA, attendance, labor) and interpret the data for leadership.
  • Manage recognition programs, engagement initiatives, employee events, and conduct exit interviews to identify actionable trends.
  • Act as the day-to-day HR contact for employees and managers, maintaining accurate records in Paylocity and escalating employee relations concerns.
