About The Position

The Montana State Library (MSL) is seeking applications for a Human Resource Specialist. This is a full-time, permanent position that is eligible for all applicable state benefits and retirement. Click here for more details: SOM Benefit Overview Who is the State Library? MSL is an agency of the Montana state government. We employ a staff of 50 professionals who are dedicated to providing state-wide library information and support, state government information, natural resources information, and geographic information for all Montanans. We support the development and excellence of Montana's public libraries and reading materials for individuals with visual or physical disabilities. We provide open, free, and transparent data to support the state's land, water, and natural resources programs. Our culture is based on values of service to our users, transparency, and trust. The State Library is a modern, 21st century library. What will you be doing? The Human Resources Specialist coordinates and delivers human resource (HR) services for the Montana State Library. The position is responsible for providing consultation to management on strategic staffing plans, compensation, training and development, budget, and employee/labor relations. Regular duties include biweekly payroll, safety, work comp, employee consultation, data and statistical reporting, and performing and overseeing all human resource management functions for the agency. The position reports to the Central Services Manager and collaborates with the Department of Administration HR Office.

Requirements

  • Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, or a related field
  • Five years of progressively responsible human resource management experience
  • Independently manage a human resource office of one, while also collaborating with agency teams and other HR professionals in the state government
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Empathetic management style
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • State residents or establish residency within an agreed upon timeframe
  • Eligible to work in the United States on a permanent basis at the time of application
