About The Position

The City of Fredericksburg’s Human Resources Department is excited to welcome a new part-time Human Resources Assistant to our team! Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; Associate’s degree in business or accounting preferred.
  • Two (2) – four (4) years of administrative and clerical experience
  • Or equivalent education and experience.
  • Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license may be required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong knowledge of human resource assistance, accounting, and clerical duties.
  • Understanding of relevant laws, standards, and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Proficient in data entry and basic accounting functions.
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn and utilize new skills to improve job performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Human Resources team.
  • Play a key role in shaping employee experiences by organizing meetings, special events, and engaging programs.
  • Assist with financial recordkeeping and process accounts payable and receivable.
  • Be the welcoming face and voice of the HR Department by providing excellent customer service, answering calls, and greeting visitors.
  • Manage departmental calendars and appointment schedules.
  • Maintain and update employee records with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Help onboard new employees by preparing materials and ensuring a smooth start.
  • Perform general office duties such as filing, data entry, and document preparation.
  • Manage employee badges and coordinate supply ordering and inventory.
  • Support employee training programs by preparing and organizing documentation.
  • Process employment verifications.
  • Collaborate with team members and assist with special projects as opportunities arise
