About The Position

Volunteers of America is a non-profit human services organization committed to serving people in need, strengthening families, and building communities. VOALA provides a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Serving in the HR Service Team, the HR Assistant position is a resource for the Human Resources department, assisting with the Employment/Onboarding of new employees and general administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications.
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients.
  • High School or GED and some college coursework in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
  • Experience in a Human Resources role.

  • Employment/on-boarding, recruiting experience.
  • Familiar with Applicant Tracking Systems and databases.
  • Familiar with UltiPro.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Perform triage on incoming calls, directing them to appropriate HR support.
  • Perform employee onboarding tasks and assist with new employee orientation.
  • Identify and organize documents for electronic archiving.
  • Perform photocopying and data entry.
  • Organize materials, credential, and licensing tracking.
  • Assist with processing Employment Verifications on Accurate, including initiating requests, follow-up with candidates, checking that information is verified, and asking for additional documents as needed.
  • Assist with resignation/termination workflows, including initiating workflow requests on UltiPro, terminating benefits, and updating termination/resignation log.
  • Process employee terminations in HRIS, including final paycheck.
  • Assist with processing Employment Verifications for all new hires and collect relevant documentation.
  • Perform current employee verifications as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required, which may be subject to change.
