About The Position

SARCAN Recycling provides environmental protection, employment creation, and economic development through a province-wide network for recycling beverage containers, electronics, paint, batteries and select household packaging. They were founded in 1988 by SARC, a provincial association that provides services to nonprofit organizations. SARCAN creates meaningful careers and is seeking a progressive individual as a Human Resources Assistant. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Human Resources, and works closely with the Human Resources Coordinator. The role is a Temporary, Full-time; 12-Week Term position starting as soon as possible, funded by Canada Summer Jobs. Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age, a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred, and legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field
  • Natural interpersonal skills; the ability to form and maintain effective relationships within all levels of the organization
  • Exhibit a strong degree of professionalism, while remaining highly-personable and approachable in the company of people of all abilities, cultures and backgrounds
  • Exhibit strong ethical conduct; acting with integrity, sensitivity, and confidentiality
  • Excellent communication, presentation and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of relevant employment and privacy-related legislation and regulations
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • A strong detail-oriented and resourceful mindset

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft 365; comfortable learning new technical systems as needed
  • Provide a satisfactory criminal record as a condition of employment
  • Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
  • Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, S.C. 2001, c. 27
  • Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative and clerical support to the Human Resources department
  • Assists with talent management responsibilities such as posting job openings, reviewing resumes, conducting phone interviews, and performing reference checks
  • Assists in preparing letters of offer
  • Schedules onboarding/orientations for new hires
  • Compiles and processes employee documentation and records; scan documents into electronic HR records
  • Performs audit of HR files and records to ensure all required documents are collected and filed appropriately
  • Tracks various HR metrics
  • Assists with the preparation of employee newsletters; researches future newsletter topics and themes
  • Supports employee benefits education and awareness initiatives
  • Supports internal and external HR-related inquiries and requests
  • Supports the application of leading practices to people-related issues, while continuously developing expertise in the practical application of Human Resources knowledge
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of HR trends, regulatory requirements, and new technologies
  • Completes other duties and projects as assigned
