About The Position

The University of San Diego is seeking a full-time temporary, benefit-based Human Resources Assistant - Benefits. This role, under the direction of the Benefit Manager, is responsible for reviewing and approving benefit and insurance enrollments and changes, reconciling and paying benefit and insurance premiums, and providing administrative support for leave of absence and Workers’ Compensation claims. The position also assists with annual open enrollment, new employee benefit orientations, and monitors enrollment results. The HR Assistant acts as the primary contact for first-level benefits inquiries for various programs and handles highly confidential employee information, ensuring compliance with numerous state and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2+ years of general office experience required
  • Working knowledge of computers, MS Office and MS Outlook
  • Working knowledge of the use of standard office equipment
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Detail-orientated
  • Excellent telephone and virtual meeting etiquette
  • Accurate typing and proofreading skills
  • Basic spreadsheet skills (Excel, Sheets, or similar)
  • Handle sensitive and confidential employment and payroll information with tact and discretion
  • To relate effectively with a wide variety of people, both virtually and in-person
  • Provide service in a courteous, prompt and efficient manner
  • Cooperate as a team member with other Benefit team members, as well as the entire HR department

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
  • Some general HR experience or experience in benefits highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Processes employee insurance and benefit enrollments and changes.
  • Processes, files, and supports management of workers’ compensation claims.
  • Responds to employee benefit inquiries timely.
  • Assists with annual open enrollment and monitors enrollment results.
  • Reconciles monthly vendor statements and troubleshoots and resolves discrepancies.
  • May assist with administration of tuition exchange and tuition remission programs.
  • Communicates with benefit vendors to resolve enrollment and service issues.
  • Provides support to the benefits team in administration of employee retirement plans including answering questions and assisting employees with enrollment and plan contribution changes.
  • Assists with scheduling various benefit-related events.
  • Assists with the development and distribution of benefit educational materials.
  • Assists with benefits communications including presentations to employees.
  • Provide administrative support with employee leaves of absence.
  • Assist in maintaining employee benefits files.
