About The Position

The Virginia Correctional Center for Women is seeking a Human Resource Assistant to provide operational HR support. This role involves assisting with recruitment coordination, employee onboarding, and maintaining accurate personnel records. The position also requires supporting HR processes such as payroll, benefits, and time/leave maintenance. The ideal candidate will be proficient in HRIS and data-entry systems, possess strong organizational and customer service skills, and be able to manage multiple tasks while maintaining confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Experience providing operational HR support such as recruitment coordination, employee onboarding assistance, and maintaining accurate personnel records in both electronic and manual systems.
  • Working knowledge of HR processes including payroll support, benefits assistance, and time and leave maintenance.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and data-entry systems (such as PageUp, Cardinal, or similar platforms) with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to deliver responsive customer service and serve as an effective liaison between employees, supervisors, and HR leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate meetings, and maintain confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform administrative and clerical duties including document preparation, file management, and general office support.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program (VSDP)
  • Experience using advanced HR systems beyond basic data entry
  • Familiarity with applicant-tracking platforms
  • Experience working in an HR Assistant or similar support role
  • Knowledge of Department of Corrections (DOC) HR policies, procedures, and operational practices
