About The Position

Responsible for applying user-centered design and human factors engineering principles to the development of integrated protective systems. The role focuses on how products work together as a complete mission system rather than as individual products, improving usability, fit, burden, training simplicity, task effectiveness and operational performance. The role requires a passionate advocate for user-centered design and operational effectiveness who thinks in integrated solutions rather than standalone product optimization. Focusing relentlessly on simplicity, intuitive operation and reduced training burden whilst balancing innovation, engineering constraints, certification and program delivery to realize high value product solutions.

Requirements

  • Degree in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Product Design, or related discipline.
  • Experience applying human factors principles to complex user-centric products or systems.
  • Experience conducting user research, task analysis, usability testing and design validation.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering and integration challenges across multiple interacting subsystems.
  • Ability to translate operational feedback into actionable engineering requirements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without a sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1B status).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior defense, military, first responder, law-enforcement, aerospace or other mission-critical product experience.
  • Experience with respiratory protection, PPE, wearable systems, soldier systems, vehicle crew equipment or life-support equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead human factors activities across new product development programs including respirators, PAPR, SCBA, suit and ensemble garments, gloves, boots and integrated soldier/first responder systems.
  • Define user needs, operational use cases, mission tasks and human performance requirements through direct engagement with customers, end users and internal customer stakeholders.
  • Drive system-level design decisions ensuring interfaces between respiratory protection, garments and ancillary equipment are intuitive, efficient and robust.
  • Plan and conduct usability evaluations, wearer trials, task analyses, cognitive walkthroughs and ergonomic assessments.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify user interaction, reduce training burden, minimize error potential and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Develop human factors requirements, verification strategies and evidence packages to support product approvals and customer acceptance.
  • Collaborate with engineering, industrial design and program teams to embed human-centered design throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Provide leadership in anthropometrics, sizing, fit, burden assessment, mobility and integration trade studies.
  • Support customer demonstrations, field evaluations and concept development workshops.
  • Support product testing and feed learning into a Continuous Improvement approach to product realization.
